A SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON!

In short, this claymation guy is basically told his angst is his own problem within his own mind. But then…

Grasshopper….the answer is simple, yet fleeting…one must look inwards to find the way out!

Hehe. Makes me think of a clay version of Plato’s Myth of the Cave. And for those of you non-spanish speakers, here’s the translation:

-Why is the world so narrow?
-Who knows?. You’ve just got to learn to accept it and that’s it.
    ************
    -Be still
    -I’m uncomfortable
-No matter how hard you try, you wonjh’t get anywhere. Adapt.
    **********
-I guess you’re right. My unhappiness is my own effort.
-Of course. The world’s not the problem. It’s you.
    **********
    -But… why? What’s that?
-I don’t know! Don’t get close! What’ have I done?
-Something terrible, for sure. We’ll have to fix it as soon as possible!

  4. Haha! Awesome! :) I miss being a kid and watching Saturday morning cartoons. I really don’t watch TV much anymore, but I just got done with all 5 seasons of Dexter. I LOVE it. Lumen rocks! Anyway, I just recently found your blog. It’s very interesting.

    Julia,
what box do you find yourself in?

I have noticed over the last year since I first read your posts that you respond more to posts that are antagonistic than to posts that are complimentary.

While I have enjoyed the anger/strenght/individualism that you show in many of your films it does make me wonder if the shows/movies have placed you within a box.

Punch a hole in the box, you dont always need to be a voyeur of others or reactive to others. Sometimes responding more to a compliment than a negative comment is more uplifting and self building.
    :)

  11. Que chistoso, pero verdad tambiĆ©n! Excelente…me gusta. Good–simple, direct. I’ll post it as well!

  12. Why is the world so tight, why so uncomfortable? It reminds me of Beckett.

Right on, Tracy. Beckett meets Claymation, that was my first take. Though Sam would never give us that last shot, with its “accidental” reveal…

Obligatory Mets reference for J.: I think we can allegorize this sequence to what seems to have been going on in the Wilpon’s Ionesco-esque world of “high finance”…!!

  13. PS? When are you going to write another short story?

Two Spanish courses & I still couldn’t understand it. It looked funny though. Have a great Valentine’s day with your special someone, Julia.

    Interesting.

I guess my last comment didnt’t pass the critics.

Probably correct, as those with blogs do make the rules.

Hmm, the room is a box after after all.

Well, thats the way cookie crumbles.

Speaking of Dexter… if we somehow get a fourth season of “In Treatment” we’ve got to get you on the couch. I mean, you’re in Manhattan, Gabriel Byrne is in Brooklyn. You could take the train to work, for crying out loud. Total win/win.

I first saw this drawn as a cartoon in about 1969 while living in Alaska! That version had two hippies in a box and I think was drawn by a local teen? Not sure where he got it from. It has always been one of my favorites demonstrating how we self create our own boxes constructed of fear and ignorance. Thanks for posting this, it made my day!

A box clever yet amazingly similar to the glass one I reside in…
