Tech-mology

March 31, 2009

Could everybody just slow down for a second?
It’s not a novel idea to lament how cellphones, email, text messaging and the interwebs have caused us to speed multitaskingly through our days, but I have two complaints… or at least some nostalgia for the old landline days.

1) As baseball season approaches, and my NY Mets will inaugurate their new stadium, I was excited to dig up the awesome pictures I have from Shea. I had close-ups of the dug-out, behind home plate, even of Game 5 in 2000 (boo). Then it hit me that all those photos were taken on a cellphone- meaning they don’t exist anymore… just like the stadium (eventually, once it’s been fully dissected and auctioned piecemeal).

2) Doctors and cab drivers text message too. God bless, ‘em (doctors), they save peoples lives, and I do like taking cabs everywhere except across town, but those are two jobs where divided attention is enough to put me on meds.

Here’s what I have to offer instead of a photo of my favorite old eyesore Shea:

I have been laughing about this picture you offered up instead of detailed views of Shea Stadium, the symbolism is effective (too bad about the pictures though, would have been nice to see). At least the man is wearing a ‘butcher’s’ coat and the meat is tagged and stamped. I wonder where he is off to with it? Is this a daily routine for him or a one time, I will just drop it by on my way to get some coffee?

Loved your article this morning on Shea. Obviously a true baseball fan. While I am a Yankee fan, and yesterday was an utter disaster, I can’t help but feel something is lost with old stadiums. Pretrty soon the average fan won’t be able to afford to go. Then what???

I saw a similar site yesterday in Amsterdam – but I think it was a lamb.

I love baseball too. I threw out the first pitch at Wrigley Field a few years ago. It’s on my top ten list of things I will never forget. I have a photo of my name on the scoreboard!

Fenway & Wrigley are about all that’s left now.

I am shocked and surprised by the photo of the guy carrying meat like that out in the open. I use to work in the food and beverage / hospitality field, so it is just mind-boggling that this occurred.

By the way, your blog is so refreshingly humorous – although I do not usually browse and read blogs, I stumbled across your blog site quite by accident, and I must say, compared with all the other blogs I have seen from different people, yours is by far the most enjoyable.

Thanks for making me smile today, I needed that.

It is very interesting about technology these days. I can remember growing up and my parents had boxes of pictures (the real ones) that they would pull out and embarrass us with. Now I am lucky if I have any real pics of my kids. All the pics now are digital (yes, I am guilty of owning a digital camera) and when something crashes then you lose years of pics of your kids.

Another thing that has caught my interest is writing. Everyone types everything. Seriously, how many people actually write other than signing something or filling something out? You can even digitally sign your name now. Before we know it, writing with a pen or pencil will be a forgotten or rare talent.

I am just waiting until we move forward like in the movie Wall’e (too lazy to look up correct spelling) and we (the human race) stop even walking.

Love your blog by the way.

Reminds me of a picture I wish I still had of my redneck neighbor hanging(bleeding out) the deer he shot earlier that day. He was hanging it from the stairs of our old house, converted into apartments, in the city. Perhaps not a city by standards held by thems dun fancified peoples of NY, but a city none the less. I felt so proud to be part of such an upstanding section of the community!

Sadly, the picture is likely no longer in existence as it was on my cell phone. Somehow seemed relevant. ;-)

Has anyone seen this clip from the Conan O’Brien show?
